The Effects of Surface Mixers on Stratification, Dissolved Oxygen, and Cyanobacteria in a Shallow Eutrophic Reservoir

چکیده

Top-down surface mixers are increasingly used in drinking water reservoirs to prevent the development of stratification, control cyanobacteria, and limit sediment release soluble manganese. A targeted field investigation enabled discrimination artificial mixing by from wind convection a shallow (6.6 m), eutrophic reservoir. were effective at reducing vertical temperature dissolved oxygen gradients over 20 m radius, within which turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) input exceeded maximum TKE contribution convection. Meteorological conditions appeared have stronger influence beyond 60 radius mixers. Near-bed velocities measured using an Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) ∼ 30 north significantly lower when not operating; operating, ADV signal amplitude showed localised resuspension. Cyanobacteria cell counts high throughout reservoir but low-light adapted Planktothrix sp. highest near mixers, indicating mixer operation may improve growing for Planktothrix. While destratification goal was accomplished locally, limited range left >90% subject diurnal anoxia, potential internal loading inorganic nutrients metals, restricting effectiveness as in-reservoir management technique raw quality systems.

Modelling Dissolved Oxygen/Sediment Oxygen Demand under Ice in a Shallow Eutrophic Prairie Reservoir

Dissolved oxygen is an influential factor of aquatic ecosystem health. Future predictions of oxygen deficits are paramount for maintaining water quality. Oxygen demands depend greatly on a waterbody’s attributes. A large sediment–water interface relative to volume means sediment oxygen demand has greater influence in shallow systems. In shallow, ice-covered waterbodies the potential for winter ...

on translation of politeness strategies in dialogues involving female characters in translations and retranslations of novels translated before and after the islamic revolution of iran and their effects on the image of women: a polysystem theory approach

abstract reception environment has considerable effects on accepting a translation. as the expectations of a target culture and its values and needs change throughout history, its criteria for accepting a translation or rejecting it will change accordingly (gentzler, 2001). the expectations of iran, as the reception environment in the present study, have changed after the islamic revolution. i...

critical period effects in foreign language learning:the influence of maturational state on the acquisition of reading, writing, and grammar in english as a foreign language

since the 1960s the age effects on learning both first and second language have been explored by many linguists and applied linguists (e.g lennerberg, 1967; schachter, 1996; long, 1990) and the existence of critical period for language acquisition was found to be a common ground of all these studies. in spite of some common findings, some issues about the impacts of age on acquiring a second or...

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

Effect of Diurnal Variation of Dissolved Oxygen in a Eutrophic Polymictic Reservoir

Email: [email protected] Abstract: To evaluate the diurnal and seasonal Dissolved Oxygen (DO) variations and their effects on water quality, a comprehensive study was conducted in a eutrophic polymictic reservoir under artificially aerated and non-aerated conditions. The effect of aeration among sampling locations and along the water column of DO and DO saturation and diurnal variation...
